The things that define Superman aren’t his powers or the destruction that he can do. Superman is instead defined by his dignity, his humility, and his unwavering kindness.
Superman is often considered to be the first real superhero. Created by Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel in 1933, Superman tells the tale of an all-powerful being from a dying planet. The spacecraft carrying the infant alien Kal-El crashes into a cornfield in Kansas, where the Kents find and adopt him, giving him the name Clark Kent. As the child grows, he learns both how to control his powers and the small-town American values of good citizenship and decency.
Eventually Clark Kent leaves small-town life for the futurist city of Metropolis, where he lands a job at the Daily Planet, a newspaper that does a VERY poor job of keeping track of when their reporters disappear. While getting settled in, he falls for the savvy reporter Lois Lane, who becomes charmed by Kent’s small-town naiveté. He also discovers a world that needs him, so he dawns his iconic red and blue uniform to fight for truth, justice, and the American way.
Superman has been around for generations, and he will be around for generations more. He’s one of the most beloved characters out there, and you can enjoy all his Superman merch here on Toon.style.
